I think a pack of cards was probably my childhood equivalent of an iPad. Mum taught us all from an early age to play patience, 7card, 4 card and clockwork. Without realising it we learnt concentration, numbers and numerical order, and an understanding of where numbers sit around the clock face. But probably the most important lesson from mums point of view was how to amuse ourselves quietly while she had some peace
