Rising Sun Wharf, Warsash.
On 5th June 1944 a number of different commando units boarded landing craft from the wharf at Warsash and set sail for the Normandy beaches. A memorial plaque tells that singing and cheering could be heard from both banks of the river Hamble.
Today this was the view from the dining room of the pub that RF and I had planned to take my mother for lunch. Unfortunately, due to whatever bug is currently attacking RF, it was only me entertaining mum. Sunday lunch was very, err, average but the location is superb and the waitress was happy to explain the tattoo on her arm related to the date she participated in pioneering and experimental procedure at the Maudsley Hospital designed to help conquer mental illness which, she believes, saved her life. Fair play to her for her openness!
On the way home I visited the poorly lady, she doesn't seem to be beating the bug at the moment.
I went to a yoga workshop this evening which involved some serious stretches, might have a few aches tomorrow!
