Numbers

We had not intended going to see the starlings this afternoon, but we happened to be on the road above Orton and noticed cars gathering and realised that it was almost sunset and the sun which has shone all day might colour the sky. 

So we decided to park up and watch. We were so glad we did, as it was an excellent showing. I don't think i have ever seen quite as many birds as there were gathered tonight. And the colour in the sky, highlighting the hills, added to it. It was interesting being next to a group of people who were seeing it for the first time. Alright we could have done without the running commentary, but they were so excited by it, it made us realise again just how fantastic the whole thing is. 


I was undecided which of many photos I was to post, but in the end went for the one that gave an idea of the sheer number of birds involved. A more usual formation picture is in extras.
