"Bearglar"
About 400 years ago the popular dancing bear in Congleton became ill and died. This was a problem because the bear was a great moneyspinner during the town's local Wakes holiday and there was no money available to buy a new bear. So it was decided to borrow the money which had been intended for the new King James Bible, and then later to repay it from the proceeds from the dancing bear. Subsequently the town has become known as the Beartown.
There is now a bear trail of about 50 decorated bears and this one was painted by pupils of a local primary school. Apparently he is dressed in a burglar outfit and has stolen a bell!
