Stuff and Nonsense

Common Ringed Plover

The weather is getting colder and the wind is getting up. I opted to go to Newton Pool hides this morning on the basis that it would allow me some shelter whilst out. This proved to be very true - unfortunately there were very few birds around on the pool so after 40minutes of almost nothing, I decided it was time to go down to the beach at Newton by the Sea and it was a good idea. The tide was out and there were lots of small waders on the shoreline and rocks - redshank, oystercatchers, sanderling, turnstones and I think this is a common ringed plover. At least this is what google is saying ;)
Since I don't think I've seen one of these before, this is my blip for today, even if I had to crop it quite hard. I did not have my long lens on and it was far too windy and cold to change it on the beach.
This is another place that I'd like to go back to if the weather holds as I'd like to blip the sanderlings - they are so fast running along the sand and so white as well.
Once I could no longer feel my fingers, I decided it was time to go, so headed back to the car and did a bit of shopping on the way back.
I spent the early evening watching England lose to Scotland in the rugby and then we cooked a nice warming chilli for dinner - yummy.

Currently I have no plans for tomorrow, so will now do a bit of googling to see if there is somewhere appropriate for the even colder weather. By Monday I might be staying in all day and playing games!
