High Waters and Tree Reflections at Millbrook
Here's the weather: rain now, rain later, and then even more rain on the way. It was a soggy Friday morning, and I stopped at Millbrook to see if it had flooded there. While the waters weren't nearly as high as that one time I can remember, it was still plenty wet everywhere.
This is a view of Thompson Run, the creek that passes under my favorite wooden bridge at Millbrook. On this morning, I could hear birds cackling and singing everywhere: a kingfisher, a cardinal, a bunch of mallards hanging out with a single merganser on the run. Wait, listen, could it be? The first sight and sound of a red-winged blackbird!
Millbrook has a beautiful boardwalk and a number of big trees. One of the more famous ones is a black willow that sits along the boardwalk, near a lovely bench. You've seen that one once or twice over these past few years. That tree is the middle one of the three on the other side, reflecting darkly on the high waters of the run.
The soundtrack: Bob Dylan, with High Water.
