Sun, Sea, Sand and a Sad Story
What a brilliant day it was today, the sun was shining so I decided to get in the car and just drive and see where I ended up.
Well, I ended up at Yellowcraigs and walked on to the beach. The place was full of people out walking their dogs, building sand castles and there were even a few hardy souls paddling in the sea.
The blip today is of the lighthouse just along from Dirleton Castle and this brave man taking a paddle. I know it was a sunny day but that water must have been freezing.
Once I got back to the car and emptied the sand out my shoes, I headed for home listening to Radio 2 on the way. It was the Johnnie Walker Sound of the 70's show and he was doing a feature on Emerson Lake & Palmer. Emerson was talking about when he was playing at a concert in 1975. The gig had finished and this guy was standing clapping , when the noise had died down this guy in the crowd said he used to be a DJ on a late night radio show and he got a phone call requesting Watching Over You by ELP for his daughter who was dying. The guy played the song and an hour later the man who had requested the song phoned the show back saying his daughter had died while the song was playing.
Emerson said that there was a big gasp of air from the audience when the guy said this and some people were crying. He said that he felt so privileged to have written a song that can stir so much raw emotion.
Johnnie Walker then played the song and I had a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat as I was driving along so I will share the song with you too. Here it is Watching Over You - by the great Emerson Lake & Palmer.
