Beauty above
Viktor Frankl described his approach to psychotherapy as a height psychology, to contrast it with Freud and Jung with their depth psychologies. He believed strongly that people need to look outwards rather than inwards in order to find the purpose that would give them meaning in their life, and therein find the resources to deal with what situation they found themself in.
After yet another school shooting in the USA looking outwards offers more beauty than inwards to the soul of a tortured country that regards the deaths of children and youths as the price of freedom. A price no other country in the world considers reasonable. Nor, I believe, do the majority of ordinary persons in the USA.
Tonight, just before I recorded the beauty of the setting sun over the Waitakeres, I read what Newt Gingrich is reported as saying. In essence he appears to believe that having gunfights in schools is the way to stop the massacres. Is he unaware of the number of the perpetrators of this violence who die by suicide or shot by Police? If anything, the promise of an exciting battle with teachers in which many children will be (that appalling term) collateral damage will encourage rather than discourage potential perpetrators of what can only be seen as The American Sickness.
I feel for the children of the USA and their parents who cannot but fear that their school will be next.
