Trier - marketplace and buildings
Very "buergerlich" is Trier - that means community oriented, probably relatively church going (catholic), comfortable, undoubtedly rather self-satisfied. A friend had sent me with the commission to find a tacky 'head of Marx', as this is after all his birthplace. Not possible. Not a single tourist shop. And no tat for sale in the marketplace either. Just wholesome foods and goods.
An attractive spot, though, with a wealth of ancient remains and lots of classic German buildings. Absolutely sweltering yesterday though. It must have been pushing 30 degrees. Seriously.
