Running from the storm
The South Pacific has had a very hot summer and now it must be paid for, it seems. The ocean has warmed up considerably and that is now causing tropical cyclones. We weathered two of these in Nelson but when it was announced that Tropical Cyclone Gita, having caused huge problems in Fiji, Samoa and Tonga, was now on its way to NZ we decided to cross the Cook Strait a day early. We took the inter island ferry from Picton to Wellington where we are staying the night with friends M and N.
Picton is a picturesque little town, photo shows our boat out in the harbour. A beautiful 3 hour crossing through Queen Charlotte Sound and we will be in Wellington where l lived for 4 years.
