Darn it!

Used this yesterday to help repair a cahmere pashmina.  It involved unravelling threads from a tassel and using them to 'darn' a hole.  
This bakelite darning mushroom belonged to my mother and I used to repair my school socks with it - in the days when replacements were hard to come by.  The 'stalk' unscrews and holds the darning needles.
Long time since it has seen any socks but I often find it useful for other things.
