13th Century Paintings.
This afternoon I went to Ashampstead to visit a superb butchers whose bacon is better than any other I have tasted. On the way, I stopped for a few minutes in St Clements Church to look more closely at the wall paintings. These paintings were completed in the thirteenth century, they were then plastered over during the reformation and rediscovered again in 1895. So, they have quite a history! The ones featured here show the Nativity and the Angels visiting the Shepherds. Quite aside from the quality of the paintings, just imagine how many people have looked at them over the centuries, if they could speak they would have quite a tale to tell.
