John Muir

A day trip to Dunbar today. We visit the one charity shop, then walk along the shore to the Old or Cromwell Harbour. There's tons of history in Dunbar, so you can read about Cromwell's association with Dunbar here. the Extra photowas taken from the Old Harbour wall, looking south across Dunbar to the snow covered Lammermuir Hills.

After lunch, we walked down the high street. Dunbar is the birthplace of John Muir. The house is in the high street, as is this sculpture of John Muir by Valentin Znoba. The following text is on the base:



"Around my native town of Dunbar, I loved to wander in the fields to hear the birds sing, and along the seashore to gaze and wonder at the shells and seaweeds, eels and crabs in the pools among the rocks when the tide was low and best of all to watch the waves in awful storms thundering on the black headlands and craggy ruins of Dunbar Castle when the sea and the sky, the waves and the clouds, were mingled together as one."


Afterwards, we went down to the craft shop, the real reason for the visit to Dunbar. The shop allows crafters to rent a shelf in the shop to sell their products, and my partner wanted to know about this. So I think we may be going back to Dunbar pretty soon.


Afterwards, we went to the Zero Waste shop to see if there was anything interesting, then down to the shore west of the harbours, where we looked for glass polished by the sea. By then, it was getting cold. We had enough time to get a coffee and snack before getting the train back to Edinburgh.
