Enjoying the powder!
It was lovely to see Luke again last night - he arrived on the 10.30pm train so it was a bit of a late night last night once we got him home and settled. We were all up and keen to go skiing today - the forecast was for clear weather in the morning and then snow later in the afternoon.
The rain yesterday did make the snow a bit heavy and in some parts I found it rather icy in the parts. But, on the plus side it was warm (-3C) and so quiet with no queues anywhere - which is how it usually is here apart from the odd day when it seems to go wrong. We had a fantastic morning skiing, which is when I took this photo of Thomas coming through the powder just off the piste.
We all met up for lunch and when we came out about an hour later we were met by a wall of fog - you could barely see the skier in front of you! I hate skiing like that so decided to go back down the mountain to home. The fog lifted in parts but the skiing was very difficult in that flat light which makes it hard to see the snow properly, you cannot judge the dips in the snow and have to just feel your way around - not great for a poor skier like me!
I have added an extra of moi taken this morning by Gavin when the light was lovely, and then another taken this afternoon when it closed in, of the gondola that comes up from the village up to the ski area on the mountain.
Our last night tonight, we leave early tomorrow morning. Luke and his friends are going back to work on Monday morning - Luke to Berlin, Archie to Madrid and Charlotte to Salamanca - all of them are language students from Durham Uni working in Europe on their year abroad. It is now raining but we hope it turns to snow so they have some soft powder to ski in tomorrow morning.
Very pleased to see how well team GB has done at the winter Olympics - how exciting to see Lizzie win gold!
