The evening dance
F and I had a fantastic day in Brighton with friends. We met for lunch in a small and wonderful tapas restaurant - mouthwatering olives and rich rioja. Yum. This was followed by flying kites on the seafront. The day was sunny and there was enough wind to knock one of the kite flyers off her feet. Not to disappoint her audience (a couple had stopped to watch her), she carried on flying the kite while sitting on her bum on the beach. Obviously she meant to fall over! I was laughing too much to capture that particular moment on camera.
When the sun began to set, we strolled onto the pier for fresh doughnuts and hot chocolate, and settled down to watch the thousands upon thousands of starlings begin their evening dance. They swirled in clouds over, around and under the pier. Every so often another group would fly over the city and join the flock. Everywhere was the rush of wings and excited bird chirrupping. Then, suddenly, they disappeared. Under the pier, we imagined, as we could hear them. It must be one of nature's wonders, this gathering of starlings.
Afterwards, we headed to our friend's flat on the seafront for pizza and Pictionary. Hilarious! Cheers for a fantastic time.
