Chinese New Year Liverpool

Chinese New Year Lumiere, Jingwei & the Ocean, this year’s tale follows the story of Jingwei and the arrival and development of the Chinese communities across the UK and Liverpool.

The story focuses on the mythical Jingwei bird which for centuries has been dropping seeds, sticks and stones from its homeland into the ocean – which have grown and formed new, diverse lands and communities.

As a reward for dedicating her life to the creation of new communities, a god transforms Jingwei into the young girl she used to be before she became a bird. She returns to her village determined to encourage people to join her in building these new, exciting islands, but is rejected by old and young alike, who dismiss her as fanciful. However, after returning to the Ocean to talk of her woes, the god presents to her dozens of boys and
girls who will join in her mission, all of them dedicated to winning over the sceptical villagers.

Thanks to their enthusiasm and willingness to accept each other’s different cultures, the villagers, Jingwei and her new friends all join together, dancing and parading around the village which is happier now than it’s ever been before. By embracing each other’s cultural diversities they all felt at home and were happy for many, many years to come.
