Harrison's Garden at Gunby Hall
Harrison’s Garden – what is growing here?
Here a thousand plants are busy ticking
Making a sound just like water trickling -
To mesmerise the mind and trick the ear.
Shy travel clocks are peeping from their shells;
Like lily pads, stern office timekeepers lie
Gazing on their long-cased brethren high
Above, who blossom forth in chimes and bells.
A thousand faces turn towards the door
As if to the sun, and stamen hands go
Slowly round. So the minutes grow
And seconds fall like petals to the floor.
They need no watering or fertilizer
They flourish in the gaze of our admiring eyes.
