Sunshine at last!
It was forecast to be a clear day with sunshine so we knew we would be skiing today. However it was also forecast to be cold, and at -18C up the mountain we decided not to get the first lift up but rather wait until a little later in the hope that it would warm up. Bad decision, as being a sunny day and a Swiss bank holiday (so day trippers drive up to ski for the day), when we arrived at the lift to go up the mountain the queues were horrendously long. We decided we are so over queueing that we ducked in to our favourite cafe for a coffee and waited for the queues to get shorter. They did, although we went up quite late at about 11am.
Unfortunately it was still freezing up the mountain. It was -17C all day and despite being a beautiful sunny day with blue skies it was just too cold for me to appreciate it. I got instant brain freeze and had a headache for most of the morning. This was taken when we stopped to get some lunch - the self service restaurant was so busy, it was not very pleasant. I hate crowds and cannot wait for the day when we can ski off season out of school holidays. Usually February is quiet here, but this year the UK and local Swiss canton half terms coincide.
Tomorrow is another sunny day and perhaps a degree or two warmer, but not much warmer!
