A good day out.
Everything went well.
Parking in the very centre of Cambridge was easy which was a surprise.
Granddaughter’s visit to the Apple store for a new iPhone battery went OK.
Time spent in bookshop and in the University Botanical Garden was enjoyable..
The photos:
The main shot is not the world’s biggest orchid. It is a model to illustrate the structure of Orchid flowers. There are about 28,000 species of orchids although horticulturalist have developed about 100,000 hybrids and cultivars.
About 75% of orchids are epiphytes which live up in trees with their roots hanging down. They absorb moisture from the air. The purple orchid is an example.
Other extras show a Strelitzia, a nice Succulent and a Bottle brush type flower from New Zealand I think.
My final extra shows a good place to be. Heffers bookshop. Take two teenage grandchildren, give them each a brown piece of plastic money the stand back and relax for half an hour.
