CARRS

A walk today with T across the Flixton Carrs area, near Scarborough. A carr is an area of fen scrub, simply a marsh overgrown with brushwood.
Plenty of birdlife including Little Egret, Lapwing, Buzzard, Redwing . . . and a whole load of hares exploring new territory and racing across the scrubland.
This image is near Star Carr, a Mesolithic archaeological site, generally regarded as the most important and informative site in the UK. Basically it is as important to the Mesolithic period as Stonehenge is to the Neolithic period as Stonehenge.
