Thailand Trip - 2018 - Day 8

I'd like to think we are just about getting used to this heat - but we aren't.  It's almost a constant temperature all day and night.

Sunday started out like most days here, just a little bit lazy.  We got up - went for breakfast, snoozed/ read by the pool for a while and then got cleaned up and ready to go explore.

We decided to go to Phuket Town - Old town area as the Weekend Night Markets came highly recommended online and through various tourism sites.

We took a tuk tuk all the way there - it's about a 40-50 min drive, up and over the mountains to the other side of the island.

We took an initial walk down Thalaang Road which is the road that becomes the walking street market and saw the start of the set up.  Then we wandered around a park and saw the golden dragon (see extras).

Thalaang road, and the Old Town area is known for the Sino-Portuguese buildings down the street - and although mostly converted into shops/ restaurants now they are all incredibly beautiful and I, personally, loved the mix of cultural history in the surroundings - it felt a bit like Hong Kong had to me.

As the night set in, the street got busier and busier - we ate from a few different vendors and the food was amazing.  There was also a lot of entertainment, such as the girl pictured here with traditional song and music.  While this was full of tourists and just as busy as Bangla Road and other parts of Patong, we really enjoyed this area - it felt, well, simply, less NEON!

Just as it got dark we grabbed another Tuk Tuk and headed back to the hotel where we had a few night caps and then went to our room to watch an episode of Star Trek: Discovery - I'm afraid I'm a little bit hooked on it!
