Sung Sot Cave

Day three of our 3 day Halong Bay Cruise and our last stop before heading back to land is Sung Sot (or Surprise Cave). This is the biggest of the five caves in Halong Bay and is truly a sight to see.

Apart from the beautiful stalagmites and stalactites it was really interesting to hear about how this cave played such an important part in the Vietnam War, not only being used as a refuge from enemy attack but also as a weapon store. There are many names graffitied on the cave walls - some dating back as far as the 1930's.
