Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral

Saturday 10th February 2018 (1989) (-6)

My friend Liz arrived at lunch time today. Unfortunately, rain had replaced the glorious sunshine of yesterday and prevented us from wanting to go out with our cameras. Trying to think of inside venues we decided on the two cathedrals, although we'd left it until mid-afternoon.

We started at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King. As we had tripods with us we asked one of the Stewards if it was ok to take photos and use the tripods. No problem at all was the reply, then she said "You want to go up the stairs to the balcony over there. With a long exposure you can get some great shots." Clearly a photographer herself! We followed her instructions. I have never been on those balconies and wouldn't have gone if she hadn't said, as it wasn't clear that you could get up there. She was right! Neither of us moved for over half an hour and we got a whole range of interesting shots without feeling as though we were in anyone's way. I was pleased to be able to get this wide angled shot that also included the roof light.

After a good couple of hours we moved on to the Anglican cathedral for another hour, but by then we were both exhausted from the concentration of working in different lighting conditions and a few more "tutorials" for my friend. We returned home to cook a meal and review our photos. She has also set me a task of achieving a certain type of photo for a presentation she is doing. We made a start today.
