Mudhole Reflections

Since my childhood, we called the place in the photo "a mud hole."  When I looked up the origin, the dictionaries said the term has been used since the mid to late 1700's to designate a low place, especially in a road, filled with mud.  Some folks would call the place in the the photo a puddle or pool of rainwater, but given the fact there is likely mud at the bottom as well as around the pool, we would call it a mud hole.  In the 3 dictionaries "mud hole" was spelled as one word, but on the spell checker here, it is two words.  No matter how you spell it or what you call it, if we played in it, a spanking or other punishment would follow for sure.
