Anniversaries

As well as being the centenary of votes for (some) females, today is the 60th anniversary of the tragic Munich air crash in which several Manchester United footballers lost their lives. One of these was a local lad, Duncan Edwards, only 21 at the time. Actually it was a couple of weeks later that Duncan died. He was brought up less than a mile from where I have lived all my life.

The extra is included to balance things up - not a suffragette, but another local sporting celebrity who won the women's singles championship at Wimbledon in the 1930's, and other championships too.

Both these tributes are to be found in Priory Park in Dudley.
