Peat & Sands, Den Haag's origins

Looking West and seeing sunset & seagulls over the canal waters in Den Haag.
This canal is linked to all other canals in the city and runs finally into the sea via a sluice.

It's named Veenkade / Peatquay here, what actually tells that in former centuries peat was traded here on this quay.. And peat is one of the soils of Den Haag; the other is sand. So city Den Haag is realised upon two different soils and its social make up derives from that... Thàt I didn't know until I picked up works at a social welfare organisation in the city.

So City Den Haag is built on 2 different types of soil; the one is peat and the other is sands. The parts that have been built on sand are more expensive since your feet will not get wet there... they do get wet when living & working on the peat soils. Natural origins that result in social differences;  all that was unknown to me for years... The city's natural make up is still: Peat & Sand and the differences in social classes from Poor till Posh can be found still accordingly to these soils (prices of the properties differ likewise).
