Hampshires in the field

These sheep were in the field I went through to get to the village for the Discussion group. John, a law academic, introduced his very thoroughly researched topic about crime and punishment. We should have discussed more about rehabilitation and not stuffing the prisons to breaking point. There is a Scandinavian model - research shows they are much more successful at preventing re-offending. But an6 Home Secretary here who has tried anything remotely along these lines has not lasted long in the job. A lot of time was taken up talking about the Warboys and Bulger cases. several people in the group had been social workers or worked in the probation service so their knowledge and experience gave us a good insight into the system. On the other side of 5he fence was a chap who had family in police and prison service. He said it was the fault of teachers not giving young people enough discipline. Sigh.

Home to a laborious upgrading of my IMac. I had a message telling me Blurb, my bookmaking program, would now run with High Sierra, so I could install both. However I needed to check with them which version of Java was compatible. It took forever to install High Sierra. Java installed with no problem. Then the Mac stuck when I tried to get to my emails for the link to a Blurb to install it. So I typed in the link from my email on iPad and that worked. However I assumed it went into my applications but when it started loading the old version and getting stuck I had to reboot the whole thing. Again, ages. A lot more faffing about till I worked out how to get it into applications, and overwrite the old version. A try-out and it seems to work. There are many other book making programs but when I was recently investigating them, all the reviews seemed to suggest Blurb was the best, being a semi-professional one.
