The Lighthouse ("The English Channel"), Auckland

Well here we are at our final holiday destination country - New Zealand. Lots of you guessed it - well done!

We're starting off with a couple of nights in Auckland. On an exploratory walk down to the docks we came across "The Lighthouse" - an art installation on Queen's Wharfe, gifted to the city in 2017 by Barfoot & Thompson Limited to commemorate 90 years in business in 2013. The artist is one Michael Parekōwhai.

Its exterior is in the form of a 1:1 scale 1950s family home and its interior features an installation of light as well as a sculpture of Captain Cook, titled The English Channel. The house is surrounded by a wooden jetty that 'floats' on Queens Wharf. The public can explore the work by looking in its windows, through its door and by climbing the staircase.

There's more info here.

To make a "Tale of Two Harbour Bridges", following my blip extra of Sydney Harbour Bridge a couple of days ago, the extra is a photo of Auckland Harbour Bridge, taken from The Lighthouse.
