The West Wing

A rear view of, the west wing of Châtellerault, the former hunting lodge of the Duke’s of Hamilton

The parterre garden, popular in the 1700’s, adds the finishing touches to the extravagance of what was originally stables, kennels and accommodation for hunting parties.

Like many prominent buildings of the time it was designed by William Adam and completed in 1734

The buildings were almost lost to sand quarrying but saved at the 11th hour. Restoration by Historic Scotland commenced in the early 1980’s.

The estate is now a country park and a great asset to culture and recreation in Lanarkshire.
