At Auntie B
I don't remember the details and am having to guess. I had been in Europe for the Christmas holidays 1967/8 but for the moment am not sure where!
There are some daffs in the background so it is just possible it was taken in mid-January before I went back to school. But perhaps half term in late February?
Auntie B (Betty) lived with her husband Eric at 7 Westoaks, The Avenue, Beckenham, Kent. An address I will never forget. Almost all my childhood, I was to visit them at some point or Auntie B would escort me from a train to a plane or vice versa.
Betty was the youngest of four girls before my father was born. Betty and he were close as they were quite a bit younger than the other three.
Although a country lover, Betty liked a bit of fun and dance and had met and married Eric a real ´London man about town. A good dancer, knew all the nightlife and had a good job in the City with the Royal Insurance Co. He always seemed to have late night dinners in town!
It was a smallish flat with I guess one spare room where I would sometimes stay a night or two in transit. I was always fascinated by Eric's sitting room tropical fish aquarium.
Betty was always very good to me and would do her best to take me somewhere interesting in the area. Always by train & tube from Shortlands station as she didn't drive. Eric, of course, had a smart MGB GT which I occasionally got squeezed into the rear "space".
Seemingly I was displaying my riding gear. I don't remember ever riding at senior school from April 1968 onwards but had up until then had regular weekly riding lessons at my junior school.
