chaise longue

Oh where to start. This year we are lucky enough at Speke to be working closely with Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). From Feb to July, we will capture the enchantment of the Victorians through Ada and Richard Watt V, with an exhibition that will explore their life and restoration of Speke Hall interiors. We will be taking a closer look at the book collection. One of the most exciting opportunities is the chance to restore the chaise longue (main pic and extra), which has been in one of the store rooms. One of the NT furniture conservators, will be filmed working on this fabulous piece and this will be played onto the wall in The Maple Bedroom for visitors to enjoy. The NT and MMU have joined forces to gain further knowledge about our collections. The list of experts who are working with our team is amazing and from March, the lecturers for MMU and a series of colleagues will be hosting evening talks at Speke. These will be ticketed and more info will be released in the near future. Fair to say there is a quiet air of excitement building in Speke Hall. More as things develop
