The big day

There were already ships at Espanola waiting for us but after an early breakfast we were first ashore.  A lot of sea lions gambling and a dry but high step landing.  There was a beacon of some description nearby.  Marine Iguanas quite pink and some acqua (attracting the females) were scattered along the rocks.  As we walked along the cliffs there were Nazca boobies nesting.  A few lava lizards (bigger) scuttled across the path.  As we got closer to the big cliffs we spotted an Albatross.  What a thrill.  There were two there.  A juvenile was near one but got pecked by one of the birds (see extra).  We were told by Carlos that this behaviour apparently is to ensure the safety of their own chicks. 

As we walked along, there were more and more albatrosses.  By the time we got to the end of the cliff path, they were up in the air circling.  Tropic birds floated by not to mention a hawk or two.  Very very exciting.  Reluctantly we walked back to the ship and we were then off to the other side of the Island.  We pulled  up at Gardner Bay, the first to arrive.  A long stretch of beach.  It was a barbecue lunch with the most delicious sausages.
 
Off for a snorkel.  Hopefully with more sealions but they were not interested in playing, only in finding food.  Unlike the ones from Moreno Point.
 
The water was deep and clear with lots of fish nibbling away at the weed on the edges of the rocks.
 
I also saw a sea turtle.
 
Back to the ship and then it was a shower and quick change and we were off to walk along the beach were there were some sea lions laying about.  It was nice to feel the sand under your feet.  The other extra is the group.

On board is was drinks in the bar and then a briefing and cocktails and farewell speeches.  It was sad to think we were about to end this wonderful trip.

 
Dinner was a buffet but there was a lovely cake with candles and happy birthday sung.  Yes, it was my birthday today
