Goldeneye Pair
The goldeneye, Bucephala clangula, is a winter visitor to these parts and a few pairs always make Kinghorn Loch their temporary home. Others are generally to be found in Kirkcaldy harbour.
The head of the male is black (with white cheek spots) but the feathers are irridescent. Occasionally, they can appear blue but generally they have a green sheen. I have chosen this one to blip because it shows that well though regrettably, I have allowed the white feathers to burn out. That is generally the case when photographing them in sunlight but when overcast, you don't see the green sheen.
