La Salerie

Today's blip is taken at Salerie corner. In the 1800's there was a gun battery positioned here with four guns. There is a small harbour for fishing / leisure boats. Being on the East side of the island there is usually more shelter, away from the Atlantic coast. This was demonstrated last night when a large section of the seawall at Perelle on the West coast was ripped away in the stormy weather at hightide. Returning to the Salerie it is interesting to note that the origin of the name comes from the fact that centuries ago there was a salting house here for preserving fish. An adjoining road is called 'Salter street'.
