Schools Out for Summer

Getting quite well versed at the Somerset - Paddington - Heathrow hotel - next day Terminal 3 and BOAC flight to Trinidad and only nine years old.

This year I got a BOAC Junior Jet Club Log Book signed by the Captain. Rolls Royce Boeing 707 G-APFL 12:30 hours flight time, 5,815 nautical miles. Nowadays I could add she was built in 1960 and ended her days in 1983, in storage at Uganda airport.

The flight was longer in time and distance than any of the other identical flights in coming years. Not sure if we had an extra stop. Something in my memory is that we might have flown Heathrow, Bermuda, Bahamas, Antigua, Barbados, Trinidad. The Bahamas I think dropped in later years.

Or it could have been the flight where we had to stop at Shannon in Ireland to refuel as the runway at Heathrow was temporarily shortened. My only ever time in Ireland and then only one hour. But it doesn't explain 800 miles longer trip.

Will remain a mystery.

I have been given written permission by the photographer, Jerry Hughes to use his photo and for that my heartfelt thanks.
