Mein München: G wie Gärtnerplatz
My Munich: G stands for Gärtnerplatz
It's been exactly 7 months since the last entry in my alphabetical Munich streets series. I'm kind of lazy when it comes to that... But today's theme of Wide-angle Wednesday motivated me to pack my wide-angle lens and head to Gärtnerplatz.
Gärtnerplatz is a (actually: the) square in Munich's hip Isarvorstadt neighbourhood. In summer, this square is as urban as it gets: packed with people listening to music, drinking cold brews, and generally enjoying themselves. The adjacent streets are filled with cafes and bars, and the river Isar is just down the street (in the photo: the one to the left) in case one should feel the urge to take a refreshing dip.
The square is surrounded by historic buildings, including the theatre Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz (centre of photo). The central area of the square is planted with flowers, and features a central fountain, and busts of Friedrich von Gärtner and Leo von Klenze, the two most influental architects of 19th century Munich.
Selective colouring as per the series.
"Don't be embarrassed, okay! The first time I tried to microwave macaroni & cheese they had to evacuate three city blocks." "That is an exaggeration - but I have seen less terrifying nuclear explosions..." - (Supergirl, S2xE19)
