Supermoon Rising: Tickle, Tickle, Moon

Moonrise was spectacular on this day, and what a special moon it was. NASA said there were three things that made it such an event: 1) it was the third in a series of supermoons (in which the moon is closer to the Earth and appears brighter), 2) it was a blue moon (which is to say, the second full moon in the month of January), and 3) during Wednesday morning's full eclipse, the moon itself will turn red (which allows us to call it a blood moon too).

This is a photo of Tuesday evening's nearly full moon taken right around moonrise. It cleared the trees across the road from our house around 5:20 pm. One of my favorite ways to photograph the moon is to catch it when it appears largest and most golden, which is to say, right when it reaches the tree line. So that is what I did.

In this photo, you may see the "face" of the Man in the Moon peeking out from between the trees. It almost seemed as though the twigs were tickling the moon's nose, maybe getting ready to make it laugh or even sneeze. Tickle, tickle, moon!

Here is a song for a moon that I can't believe I have not used until now. It's the title track to Roger Daltrey's sixth solo album, released in 1985, and every song on the album is good. This tune, written by John Parr and Julia Downes, was a tribute to former bandmate Keith Moon, the Who's wildman drummer. Here is Daltrey, with Under a Raging Moon.
