Another Languedoc year...

Scoff or toss? The mushroom dilemma.

The pups and I had a wonderful soggy walk in the vineyard today. We have a tiny forest and this morning it was suddenly full of mushrooms. In the past I've only spotted them when they've been large and a less interesting flavour. These were all young and delectable and I know they're alright because we eat them every year.

I think the ones on the right are chestnut boletes, however I don't know what the ones on the left are. As a result I've ditched them. Will I regret this? Will someone tell me they are the most delicious mushrooms known to man?

In theory you can take your mushrooms to the pharmacy and they will identify them for you and tell you whether they are edible or toxic. When I did that once before I asked about some luscious looking mushrooms, to be met by the answer 'Oooh, we wouldn't eat those. By the way where EXACTLY did you say you picked them? Are there any left?"

Perhaps one of you lovely experts will tell me.
