Lodge
What adventures have been had in East Cork! We stayed in the most amazing airbnb - a converted coach house, huge log fire blazing as we arrived, and lots of treats provided. Our hosts had almost finished renovating the big house which was a wonderful Paladian pile, once painted ochre complete with portico with ionic columns. This little derelict lodge wasn't their's sadly but belonged to the big house across the road. East Cork is teeming with big houses, many derelict but quite a few being done up.
Fantastic weather and we have traipsed through an incredible amount of mud, and a fair amount of shite, and been rewarded with a tower houses, fortified houses, sile na gigs, dovecots, holy wells, a petting farm (!), and some interesting eating experiences - supper in Castlemartyr (posh resort), lunch in a very traditional cafe where the local bachelor farmers were tucking into vast portions, and a very pleasant supper with our hosts.
The feathers in the extra come from an amazing sculpture in Midelton which commemorates the generosity of the Choctaw People during the time of the Famine.
Just home and now its chips and Arthouse: Call Me By Your Name, so I will catch up tomorrow.
