the laddies
every year, the Samba Sisters (the women's drumming band I belong to) hold a Burns Supper at Lincluden Community Centre. Robert Burns lived in this area and would have known Lincluden well (though not the Community centre, obviously). I'm sure that that he would have enjoyed seeing the Samba Sisters perform if he had been alive today.
We invite "plus ones" to our supper, and some of these are "laddies". One of them usually proposes the "Toast to the Lassies" and this year it was D's turn. He made a fine speech, but was surprised when it was time for the "Reply Frae the Lassies" and I stood up to speak...what a well-kept secret that was! Fiona then did a great "Immortal Memory" which included some of her own poetry, and then we had a rest before dessert. In that time the Laddies kindly did the dishes :-)
