I have an early appointment tomorrow morning at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, so we decide to come up today and stay overnight rather than face a long drive first thing.

I let Hildasrose know we’ll be in her part of the world and suggest a mini-blipmeet - she goes one better and invites us to dinner at her home.

But before we get to Birmingham, we take a detour to a small village just outside Stratford-on-Avon to deliver some bicycle bits and pieces to Cyclists Fighting Cancer.

CFC is a charity which provides bikes for children who are recovering from treatment for cancer in order to help them regain their mobility and self confidence.  As well as accepting donations of children’s bikes they also take adult bikes or spare parts which they can sell on.

I have far too many bits of bikes lying around the garage - many accumulated over the years for projects that I fully intended to build up.  But the realisation that I’m never going to get round to it has finally dawned and I’d rather they went to CFC than eBay.

It’s about 5 o’clock when we finally arrive at Rose’s house.  It’s good to catch up with her and SHH - it’s been a long time since we’ve seen them.

Dinner is both tasty and generous.  We finish with a boozy pudding, which gives me cause for concern in case I’m breathalysed on the drive back to the hotel;

Policeman; “Have you had much to drink sir?”

Me; “Just a trifle.”
