Remains of a proud jetty
Rumours have it that wood from here was used to pave the streets of London
Hamlin Bay is a superb part of the south of Western Australia and the remains of this jetty a popular spot for photographers in a picturesque part of the world.
Hamelin Bay Jetty was built in 1882 to service the local timber mills. The original jetty was 600m long and was capable of berthing three ships at a time. The ships were loaded using steam cranes. The nearby Karridale Mill provided timber for the waiting ships via a railway line.
The timbers were then sent around the world and often used in road and wharf construction...
