#100days - '65 introduced a new kind of spy
The Ipcress File was produced by Harry '007' Saltzman but was a very different kind of spy film. It opens with British agent Harry Palmer in his pyjamas and glasses, making breakfast. Everything about the film (aside from the amazing cinematography) is resolutely mundane, far removed from the globetrotting antics of James Bond.
It's one of Michael Caine's earliest lead roles, and he's perfect casting. Having written a book on the actor's films, I have a bias toward him but you rarely seen Caine give a bad performance. He's been in some shockingly bad movies, but never phones it in.
