Ever decreasing circles

After a horrendous journey to work, due to the M3 being closed, I finally arrived only 1hr later than expected. As I walked across the car park I noticed some recently cut tree trunks, which had clearly been covered in ivy as the main trunk was surrounded by smaller circles.
