Swans

These swans were lurking in the old mill race, and assumed that as I had stopped I was going to feed them. I think they get fed bread mostly, which is entirely unsuitable for them as far as I understand it. But they seem healthy enough. There are the parents and two cygnets, which latter have now lost almost all their juvenile grey plumage, though their bills have not yet turned orange. The endless supply of food, bread or otherwise, keeps them local and seemingly quite tame, though I think it's wise to keep at a respectful distance.

One can't help thinking that they must know how handsome they are, but no doubt they have no concept of that. I daresay they do instinctively know that only the foolhardy would mess with them, however gentle they may appear.
