Monk Coniston & Tarn Hows
The purpose of today's walk was to update the risk assessment for one of the National Park walks. This was my second visit to Tarn Hows this week but the conditions could not have been more different. On Monday the cloud was quite low, it rained and the footpath around the Tarn resembled a skating rink in places. Today it was cold and bright and all the snow and ice had melted. This is the view from the Scott Memorial across the tarn to Black Crag and the snow top fells in the distance. Sir James Scott of Windermere, a former London MP, made a large donation to the National Trust in 1930 to enable it to buy the farmland and the tarn after the Monk Coniston estate was split. There was no wind today so the tarn was like a mill pond - shot in extras.
