Hanging off the quay
My hubby took a school trip to Europe in 1977. A friend brought round his photos of the trip and we looked at them this afternoon. He has told the story many times about getting off a ferry and the boat not being moored properly so he ended up with the front wheels on the quay and the back ones hanging over the edge. The back was resting on the prop shaft in a very precarious position. He was in the driving seat with his foot on the brake and he swears that the bus would have been in the sea if he had taken his foot off the brake. Eventually the bus was dragged onto the jetty by a tractor. While that was being organised he was white knuckled in the front. The extra shows the bus going on to ferry and the bus went across it . The back and front of the bus hanging off the sides. The ferry is tiny. It was going between Greece and Turkey. They weren't speaking at the time so no secure moorings were allowed only a person holding a rope. Amazingly the bus wasn't damaged.
