"KEEP STILL - THIS WON'T HURT!"

Mr. HCB had to take his hearing aids back to Leightons a couple of weeks ago because they were “playing up”.  Apparently, and I don’t know this, because I don’t wear hearing aids, when they are first inserted into the ears, they play a little tune and then stop.  Mr. HCB’s kept on playing and playing and playing - you get the drift or the tune!

So we took them into Leightons - and spoke to Kate, the Manager, who said that she would pass them to Beth, the Audiologist, who would send them to the manufacturers and it was hoped they would be back within five to seven working days.  Mr. HCB was happy with that, but last weekend, as they had been gone for almost two weeks, we went in to enquire how much longer they would be, bearing in mind we are going away quite soon.

We were told that after going back to the UK headquarters in Hamilton, Scotland, they weren’t happy with them, so they had been sent back to the headquarters in Copenhagen - we would have been happy to take them there ourselves, but they didn’t ask!

Anyway, we now understand that they are being replaced because HQ wasn’t happy with them even after the fault had been rectified, so Mr. HCB now has to wait for about another week, but Beth said yesterday that she was happy for him to “borrow” some hearing aids until his came back.

He had an appointment this morning, when he told Beth that he had been treating his ears for a week as the nurse at our GP surgery had said he had a build-up of wax.  She looked and confirmed that she could remove the wax, but would prefer to do it with her suction machine, as she didn’t recommend putting water into his ear and then fitting hearing aids.

My eyes lit up when she started to sort out the machine and Mr. HCB’s comment was “Oh no, I feel a Blip coming on!”   It’s a good job Beth knows what a Blip is otherwise she might have thought it was something to do with Mr. HCB’s ears!

After she had got everything ready, she then got out some rather fetching headgear, which I mistakenly thought would be put on Mr. HCB - wrong!  It was so that she could see into his ears and remove the offending wax.  It only took about 5 minutes and then the hearing aids were fitted and now Mr. HCB can hear every word I say - which you may feel is not such a good thing!!  Anyway, we had an enjoyable visit and I have promised to send Beth a copy of my Blip.

I know I have said it before, but will say it again - it is always a pleasure to go into Leightons.  We get great service - always with a smile, never feel rushed but are treated more like friends - something that is sadly lacking in our society today - so thanks Beth, Kate and Kirsten and all the other staff - you brightened up a dull, dreary and dismal day and you all deserve a Gold Star!
