Sunset After Suffolk

Time to leave the comfortable cottage and head for the Midlands.

On the way we visited Ely Cathedral, where the Harvest celebrations were in preparation with massive floral and vegetable displays. We marvelled at the exquisite interior and exterior detail, especially the famous lantern tower. (Incidentally, photographs are positively encouraged, unlike at Durham, although a permit is required to use a tripod. I didn't, so my photos are poor.) We took a walk round the town and river before leaving, with a vow to return and see it properly another time.

Next stop was at the 100-foot drain, which we just had to see; it appears on the maps as straight parallel lines running SW to NE across Cambridgeshire, almost 20 miles long. This view is of the River Great Ouse (or Old West River) at Earith from the sluice gate to the Old Bedford River.
