Snowdrops
The snowdrops are all coming up now and this group is well ahead of most of the rest as they're under the shelter of a southwest fence. Last year we also planted five bulbs of a named variety and they've duly come up with five individual flowers, which doesn't really do the snowdrop effect. They'll bulk up over the years though so maybe in a year or two we'll get the proper impact from them. I can't get to them to look at the inside of the flowers yet as the border is so saturated, but if it dries out a bit I'll check them out more closely. The beauty of the flowers was the main point of buying them. We don't, however, intend to become galanthophiles and spend a fortune on rare snowdrop specimens. In some respects the wild variety (if they are wild) creates the mass effect better than anything else.
